The LB 27 features Evenheat's side-element-only design for dead-nut front-to-back temperature uniformity across the full 27-inch chamber length. Engineered specifically for knife makers working with long blades, this heat treat oven eliminates rear-wall overheating while the 180° side-opening door keeps the super-heated door well away from you during critical quenching operations.

Side-Element-Only DesignHeating elements positioned only on the sides of the chamber deliver perfectly even temperature distribution from front to back, allowing full use of the entire 27-inch length without rear-wall overheating.
180° Side-Opening DoorDoor swings out and to the side a full 180 degrees, positioning the super-heated door well away from you during critical quenching operations for maximum safety and ease of use.

Common questions
Why is the side-element-only design important for knife making?Traditional ovens with rear heating elements create hot spots at the back wall, which can overheat the tips of long blades and cause uneven heat treatment or warping. The LB Series eliminates the rear element entirely, using only side elements to deliver perfectly uniform temperature from front to back across the full 27-inch chamber length. This means you can position blades anywhere in the chamber with confidence.
What types of steel can I heat treat in the LB 27?The 2200°F maximum temperature covers the vast majority of steels used by knife makers, including popular choices like 1095, 5160, O1, CPM-154, AEB-L, and most stainless steels. High-speed steels requiring temperatures above 2200°F would need a different oven, but these represent a small fraction of bladesmithing applications.
How does the side-opening door improve safety during quenching?When you open the door to remove a blade at critical austenitizing temperature (often 1450-1950°F), everything is extremely hot including the door itself. The 180-degree side-swing design moves that super-heated door completely out of your way and away from your body, giving you clear access to the chamber and an unobstructed path to your quench tank. This is vastly safer than a drop-down door that stays in your workspace.
Is this a made-to-order item or do you stock it?This oven can be ordered either way. The special pricing on this page is for made-to-order units shipped directly from Evenheat's Michigan factory, which involves a lead time.
