Common questions
Can the Studio Pro 17 really run on regular household 120V power?Yes. The Studio Pro 17 is designed to operate on standard 120V household circuits, making it ideal for home studios without requiring expensive electrical upgrades. The hybrid construction with a fiber lid allows it to reach full temperature efficiently on 120V, though heat-up is about 50% faster than traditional all-firebrick designs at this voltage.
What's the advantage of the dual access design for glass work?Front access lets you load delicate glass projects horizontally without disturbing carefully arranged pieces, while top access is essential for venting during firing and using vertical tools like glass embossing stamps. The dual-hinged design gives you both options in one kiln, eliminating the need to choose between front-loading and top-loading models.
Why does the Studio Pro 17 use a fiber lid with firebrick walls? This hybrid construction combines the best of both materials. The lightweight fiber lid heats up quickly and reduces devitrification risk by reaching temperature faster, while the firebrick walls and floor provide superior heat retention and even cooling—critical for proper annealing of glass pieces. You get speed and quality in one design.
Is the Quiet Drive Solid State Relay worth the upgrade cost? For glass artists, absolutely. The Quiet Drive fires 60 times per second versus 10 for mechanical relays, providing dramatically tighter temperature control during critical annealing phases. It has no moving parts to wear out, operates silently, and extends kiln life by reducing thermal shock to elements. It's the single best investment for consistent, repeatable results.
