Can I plug this kiln into a standard household outlet?Yes. The HF 810 runs on 120V/15A power and plugs into a standard household outlet. However, it should be on a dedicated circuit with no other appliances running to prevent tripping breakers. Avoid using extension cords as they can overheat and create a fire hazard.
What's the difference between the High Fire series and Evenheat's RM II kilns?High Fire kilns use 3-inch thick firebrick instead of the 2.5-inch brick in RM II models. This extra insulation allows High Fire kilns to reach higher temperatures faster and hold heat more efficiently. If you're firing regularly to Cone 6 or higher, the High Fire series will save you time and energy costs.
Is Cone 8 high enough for stoneware and porcelain?Yes. Most mid-range stoneware and porcelain clay bodies mature between Cone 6 and Cone 8, making this kiln suitable for the vast majority of functional pottery work. If you need Cone 10 capability for specialized high-fire work, consider stepping up to Evenheat's larger High Fire models.
Should I upgrade to the Quiet Drive Solid State Relay?Absolutely. The Quiet Drive is one of the best investments you can make. It fires 60 times per second versus 10 times per second with mechanical relays, giving you dramatically tighter temperature control.
