Common questions
Can I plug this into a standard wall outlet?
The HB64E requires a 120-volt, 20-amp dedicated circuit with a grounded outlet. While it uses standard household voltage, most standard outlets are only 15-amp circuits. You may need an electrician to install a dedicated 20-amp circuit, or verify that an existing outlet meets the amperage requirement. Never use an extension cord or share the circuit with other appliances.
What can I fire in a kiln this size?
The HB64E is designed for testing clay bodies and glazes, small jewelry pieces, glass fusing samples, and enameling work. The 6.5-inch square chamber accommodates multiple test tiles, small pendants, earrings, or glass sample pieces in a single firing. This is not a production kiln—it's specifically built for testing, sampling, and small decorative work where Cone 10 capability is needed.
Does this kiln include furniture (shelves and posts)?
No, kiln furniture is sold separately. Due to the small chamber size, Olympic offers custom-sized furniture kits designed specifically for the HB64E dimensions. These kits include appropriately sized shelves, posts, and stilts that maximize the usable space for test tiles and small pieces.
How do I register my warranty?
Olympic Kilns requires warranty registration within 30 days of delivery. You can register online at the Olympic Kilns website using your kiln serial number and purchase information. Warranty coverage is only valid when the kiln is purchased through an authorized dealer like Peach State Pottery, and registration must be completed within the 30-day window.
How long does a typical firing take in this kiln?
Firing times vary based on target temperature and program settings, but typical Cone 10 firings range from 8 to 12 hours. The small chamber size and 1620-watt element allow relatively quick heating compared to larger kilns, but reaching high temperatures still requires gradual heating to prevent thermal shock to test pieces and ensure even heat distribution.
Not sure if the HB64E is the right kiln for your space? Our team can help you evaluate electrical requirements, determine if a test kiln meets your production needs, and recommend the right accessories for your studio workflow.
