The Olympic 1823HE is a stackable electric kiln with true Cone 10 capability, built with 3-inch firebrick for exceptional heat retention and high-fire performance. Common questions
What electrical work is required to install the 1823HE?
The 1823HE requires a dedicated 60-amp double-pole breaker at 240V (or 70-amp at 208V) with 6 AWG copper wire run from your electrical panel to the kiln location. This is not a plug-and-play appliance—you'll need a licensed electrician to install the circuit. The kiln can be hardwired or connected via a NEMA 6-50 receptacle. Do not use an extension cord or share the circuit with other equipment.
Does the kiln include shelves and posts?
No. Kiln furniture is sold separately because different users need different configurations depending on their work. We recommend ordering a furniture kit sized for the 1823HE at the time of purchase. A typical starter kit includes 3–4 full shelves, 2–3 half shelves, and assorted posts in multiple heights.
Can I add or remove rings to change the kiln height?
Yes. The 1823HE is stackable, meaning you can purchase additional rings to increase chamber height or remove rings to create a shorter firing space. This is useful if you primarily throw tall forms or want to reduce energy consumption when firing smaller loads. Each ring contains elements and connects to the control system.
How do I register the kiln warranty?
You must register your kiln with Olympic Kilns within 30 days of delivery to activate the one-year limited warranty. Registration is completed online through Olympic's website using your serial number and purchase information. Peach State Pottery will provide you with all necessary documentation at the time of delivery. Warranty is valid only for kilns purchased through authorized dealers.
What's the difference between the standard KilnStar controller and the Genesis upgrade?
The KilnStar is a reliable digital controller with 8-segment programs and basic Cone Fire modes—it's sufficient for most studio potters. The Genesis touchscreen offers a color display, 32 segments per program, real-time graphing, detailed firing logs, and advanced diagnostics. Choose Genesis if you run complex multi-zone firings, need detailed records for production work, or want the easiest possible programming interface.
