Fusing joins pieces of glass together flat on a shelf at approximately 1450-1500°F, while slumping shapes fused glass over or into molds at lower temperatures around 1200-1350°F. The HS-7GW handles both processes with its programmable controller—you'll set different ramp rates and hold temperatures depending on your project. For fusing, you'll typically ramp quickly to tack or full fuse temps; for slumping, slower ramps prevent thermal shock to pre-fused pieces.

You need a dedicated 20-amp circuit with a 120V outlet—standard outlets are typically 15 amps and will trip the breaker. Most modern kitchens have 20-amp circuits for appliances, identifiable by a horizontal slot on the outlet. Have a licensed electrician verify your circuit can handle 13 amps continuously and install a 20-amp outlet if needed. Never use an extension cord or power strip with this kiln.

The 7-inch square chamber accommodates pieces up to approximately 6.5″ × 6.5″ to allow clearance from the walls. This is ideal for test tiles, jewelry components, small plates, cabochons, and pendants. You'll need to account for shelf posts if stacking, which reduces usable height. For production work or larger pieces, consider the HS-1013 or HS-1418 models with bigger chambers.

A full fuse to 1500°F typically takes 3-4 hours including annealing, depending on glass thickness and your programmed ramp rates. The lightweight ceramic fiber insulation heats quickly—expect approximately 20-30°F per minute on initial ramp. Annealing soak and controlled cooldown add 1-2 hours. The compact size means faster cycles and lower energy consumption compared to larger kilns.
