Common questions
What types of glass work can I do in the HS-18G?
The HS-18G fires to 1700°F, making it suitable for full fusing (1450–1500°F), tack fusing (1350–1425°F), slumping (1200–1350°F), and annealing. The 18″ × 18″ shelf accommodates large platters, bowls, decorative panels, and jewelry components. The 10″ interior height provides clearance for most slumping molds and stacked fusing projects. This kiln is not intended for float glass or lampworking; it's designed for kiln-formed glass techniques.
What are the advantages of the clamshell design over top-loading kilns?
The front-hinged clamshell lid opens toward you, allowing you to load glass from a work table at waist height without lifting pieces overhead. This reduces the risk of dropping expensive glass work and makes it easier to position elements precisely on the shelf. The fully-opening top provides complete access for placing large sheets, removing molds, or inspecting work mid-fire. Clamshell kilns are especially popular with artists working with full sheets of glass or heavy slumping molds.
Do I need an electrician to install this kiln?
Yes. The HS-18G requires a dedicated 240V, 40-amp circuit with 8 AWG copper wire. This is not a standard household circuit. A licensed electrician must install a new circuit from your breaker panel to the kiln location, terminating in either a NEMA 6-50 receptacle or a hardwired connection. Do not attempt to run this kiln on an existing circuit or use an undersized wire gauge. Improper wiring creates a serious fire hazard and voids your warranty.
What's the difference between the HS-18G and other glass kilns in this size range?
The HS-18G includes a solid state relay as standard equipment, which many competitors charge extra for or omit entirely. SSR provides infinite power switching for smooth temperature control during critical annealing phases where precise cooling rates prevent stress fractures. The clamshell design is also less common than top-loaders in this size, offering easier loading access. Hot Shot kilns are built for technical users who prioritize control accuracy over price.
Is this kiln covered by warranty if I buy from Peach State Pottery?
Yes. Peach State Pottery is an authorized Hot Shot dealer, so your kiln is covered by the manufacturer's one-year limited warranty. You must register your kiln with Hot Shot within 30 days of delivery to activate coverage. Kilns purchased from unauthorized sellers or used kilns are not covered. Keep your proof of purchase and register promptly to protect your investment.
Not sure if the HS-18G is the right kiln for your studio? Our team can help you compare models, review electrical requirements, and confirm this kiln fits your glass work.

  • Inspect the product immediately after unpacking.
  • Contact Peach State Pottery as soon as possible.

If There Is Severe Visible Damage

  • Refuse the shipment if the damage appears severe.
  • Take detailed photos before refusal.
  • Contact Peach State Pottery right away.

If You Discover Concealed Damage

Concealed damage is damage discovered after the product has been unpacked.

  • Notify Peach State Pottery as soon as possible.
  • Keep all packaging materials.
  • Take detailed photos and/or video.
  • Report the issue promptly so the shipping damage claim process can be reviewed.

Photo & Video Documentation

Before opening the box or crate, we strongly recommend taking clear photos or video of the packaging from all sides.

Continue documenting as you unpack, especially if you notice crushed packaging, torn cartons, holes in the box, visible impact marks, or damage to the oven, kiln, or accessories.

This documentation may be required to support a freight or shipping claim.

Returns & Exchanges

This return policy applies to HotShot Oven & Kiln products purchased through Peach State Pottery. Returns must receive prior approval and meet all conditions outlined below. Warranty returns are covered under a separate warranty policy.

Return Eligibility

To be eligible for a non-warranty return:

  • The return request must be initiated within 30 days of purchase.
  • The product must have been purchased directly from Peach State Pottery.
  • The product carton must remain sealed and unopened.
  • The product must be unused, uninstalled, unmarked, and not energized.
  • The product must be returned in its original, unmarked carton with all included materials and documentation.
  • The product must not be a special order or custom-configured unit.
  • A Return Merchandise Authorization, or RMA, must be approved before anything is shipped back.

Please do not ship any product back without first receiving return authorization.

Off-the-Shelf Stock Units

Standard stock units, including the HS-360, HS-1200, and HS-18K in unmodified condition, may be eligible for return under the conditions listed in this policy.

  • Approved stock unit returns are subject to a 25% restocking fee.
  • Returns must be initiated within 30 days of purchase.
  • The customer is responsible for prepaid freight back to the warehouse.
  • The product must pass inspection before a refund is approved.

If the product is not in as-new, resellable condition, you will be notified and offered the option to have it returned to you at your expense.

Modified Stock Units

Units upgraded or modified from their original stock configuration, including controller upgrades or custom configurations, are subject to a 25% restocking fee and must meet all other return conditions listed above.

Special Order & Custom Units

Special order or custom-made units are products specifically designed, modified, or manufactured to meet unique customer specifications.

These units are not returnable under any circumstances unless covered by an approved warranty claim.

Refurbished & Scratch & Dent Units

Refurbished units and scratch-and-dent models are discounted due to cosmetic flaws or handling damage. These units are fully tested and functional but are sold as-is and are not returnable.

Product Must Be Unopened

Any product whose carton seal has been broken, installed, energized, or marked in any way is not considered suitable for resale and will not be accepted for return.

Restocking Fee

Approved returns of eligible HotShot stock units are subject to a 25% restocking fee.

Original shipping costs are not credited or refunded. Return shipping is the customer’s responsibility unless otherwise stated under an approved warranty claim.

Return Process

To start a return, contact Peach State Pottery with your order information and reason for return. We will help coordinate the next steps.

  1. Request return authorization.
  2. Wait for RMA approval before shipping anything back.
  3. Repackage the product carefully in its original, unmarked packaging.
  4. Ship the product prepaid and insured to the designated return address.
  5. The product will be inspected after arrival.
  6. If approved, your refund or credit will be processed.

Return Shipping Damage

Peach State Pottery is not responsible for damage incurred during return shipping.

We strongly recommend taking photos of the return packaging before shipment and using a prepaid, insured shipping method. Any damage that occurs during return shipping may be deducted from your refund.

Refunds

Once your return is received and inspected, you will be notified whether your refund has been approved or rejected.

If approved, the refund will be issued back to the original payment method. Please allow time for your bank or credit card company to process the refund after it has been issued.

Late or Missing Refunds

If your refund has been approved but has not appeared yet, please check your bank or credit card statement, contact your card issuer or bank, and then contact Peach State Pottery if you still need help.

Exchanges

Exchanges are generally only available for items that are defective, damaged, or approved under the applicable manufacturer policy.
