Common questions
What's the difference between fusing and slumping, and can this kiln do both?
Yes, the HS-12G handles both processes. Fusing joins multiple pieces of glass together at temperatures between 1300°F–1500°F to create flat panels or decorative elements. Slumping (also called draping) reshapes fused glass over or into molds at lower temperatures around 1200°F–1350°F to create bowls, plates, and curved forms. The HS-12G's 1700°F maximum temperature provides plenty of range for full fusing, tack fusing, and slumping, plus controlled annealing to properly cool your glass work.
Do I need an electrician to install this kiln?
No electrician needed for the HS-12G. It operates on standard 120V household power and plugs into a regular 15-amp outlet with a standard three-prong plug. You should use a dedicated 15-amp circuit (meaning no other appliances sharing that breaker) to ensure reliable operation. Avoid using extension cords. This makes the HS-12G one of the most convenient glass kilns for home studios, classrooms, or spaces without 240V wiring.
What size glass projects can I fire in the HS-12G?
The 12″ × 12″ floor provides 144 square inches of working space, ideal for jewelry components, small plates up to 10″ diameter, decorative tiles, suncatchers, and cabinet glass panels. The 6″ height accommodates stacking multiple layers for casting projects or tall slumping molds. This capacity suits beginning glass artists, jewelry makers, and hobbyists working on smaller production runs or one-of-a-kind pieces. For larger platters or architectural panels, you would need to step up to the HS-18G or HS-23G models.
What does the solid state relay controller do?
The solid state relay (SSR) provides more precise temperature control compared to basic infinite switches found on entry-level kilns. The SSR rapidly pulses power to the heating elements to maintain steady temperatures critical for proper glass annealing and preventing thermal shock. This precision matters most during the annealing hold and controlled cooling phases where temperature consistency prevents cracking. The digital controller displays the current temperature and allows you to set target temperatures for each stage of your firing.
Is my warranty valid if I buy from an online retailer?
Hot Shot honors warranties only when purchased through authorized dealers like Peach State Pottery. Buying from unauthorized resellers, auction sites, or third-party marketplaces may void your warranty coverage. The one-year limited warranty must be registered within 30 days of delivery and covers manufacturing defects in materials and workmanship. Peach State Pottery provides direct support for warranty claims, technical questions, and replacement parts throughout your kiln's lifetime.
Not sure if the HS-12G is the right kiln for your glass studio? Our team can help you compare chamber sizes, firing schedules, and power requirements to find the best fit for your work.

This documentation may be required to support a freight or shipping claim.

If the product is not in as-new, resellable condition, you will be notified and offered the option to have it returned to you at your expense.

Modified Stock Units

Units upgraded or modified from their original stock configuration, including controller upgrades or custom configurations, are subject to a 25% restocking fee and must meet all other return conditions listed above.

Special Order & Custom Units

Special order or custom-made units are products specifically designed, modified, or manufactured to meet unique customer specifications.

These units are not returnable under any circumstances unless covered by an approved warranty claim.

Refurbished & Scratch & Dent Units

Refurbished units and scratch-and-dent models are discounted due to cosmetic flaws or handling damage. These units are fully tested and functional but are sold as-is and are not returnable.

Product Must Be Unopened

Any product whose carton seal has been broken, installed, energized, or marked in any way is not considered suitable for resale and will not be accepted for return.

Restocking Fee

Approved returns of eligible HotShot stock units are subject to a 25% restocking fee.

Original shipping costs are not credited or refunded. Return shipping is the customer’s responsibility unless otherwise stated under an approved warranty claim.

Return Process

To start a return, contact Peach State Pottery with your order information and reason for return. We will help coordinate the next steps.

  1. Request return authorization.
  2. Wait for RMA approval before shipping anything back.
  3. Repackage the product carefully in its original, unmarked packaging.
  4. Ship the product prepaid and insured to the designated return address.
  5. The product will be inspected after arrival.
  6. If approved, your refund or credit will be processed.

Return Shipping Damage

Peach State Pottery is not responsible for damage incurred during return shipping.

We strongly recommend taking photos of the return packaging before shipment and using a prepaid, insured shipping method. Any damage that occurs during return shipping may be deducted from your refund.

Refunds

Once your return is received and inspected, you will be notified whether your refund has been approved or rejected.

If approved, the refund will be issued back to the original payment method. Please allow time for your bank or credit card company to process the refund after it has been issued.

Late or Missing Refunds

If your refund has been approved but has not appeared yet, please check your bank or credit card statement, contact your card issuer or bank, and then contact Peach State Pottery if you still need help.

Exchanges

Exchanges are generally only available for items that are defective, damaged, or approved under the applicable manufacturer policy.
