Common questions
Can I plug this kiln into a regular wall outlet?
Yes. The Square 146GFE operates on standard 120-volt household power and plugs into any 15-amp or 20-amp outlet. A dedicated circuit is recommended for best performance, but no special electrical installation or electrician is required. This makes it ideal for studios, classrooms, and home workshops without 240V service.
What glass fusing applications can this kiln handle?
The 1700°F maximum temperature is perfect for full fusing, tack fusing, slumping, and annealing of glass up to 14″ × 14″. You can fire dichroic glass, frit work, jewelry-scale pieces, small plates and bowls, and test tiles. It's also excellent for precious metal clay (PMC) firing, which requires similar temperature ranges and controlled ramping.
Do I need to purchase kiln furniture separately?
Yes. Glass kiln furniture (kiln-washed shelves, shelf paper, and posts) is sold separately to allow you to configure the setup for your specific glass fusing needs. We recommend ordering a furniture kit sized for this 14.5″ × 14.5″ chamber when you purchase the kiln to begin firing immediately upon delivery.
How does the GFE controller differ from standard ceramic kiln controllers?
The GFE controller is specifically programmed for glass work with adjustable ramp and hold segments that match glass fusing schedules. It allows you to program precise heating rates (critical for avoiding thermal shock in glass), extended hold times at fusing temperatures, and controlled annealing cycles. This level of control is essential for successful glass work but unnecessary for ceramic firing.
How do I activate the Olympic Kilns warranty?
Register your kiln at the Olympic Kilns website within 30 days of delivery to activate the one-year limited warranty. Keep your purchase receipt from Peach State Pottery, as warranty coverage is valid only through authorized Olympic dealers. The warranty covers manufacturing defects in materials and workmanship but does not cover normal wear items like elements and thermocouples.

Please inspect your shipment carefully before signing for delivery. Take photos or video of the packaging before unpacking and continue documenting the unpacking process, especially if you notice any visible damage.

Warranty Claim Process

If you believe your Olympic kiln has a warranty-related issue, contact Peach State Pottery with your order information and a description of the issue. We will help review the situation and assist with the next steps.

If the issue is not resolved through the retailer, Olympic Kilns must be contacted in writing within six (6) days of the first indication of the defect.

  • Requested parts must be packaged carefully and shipped freight prepaid.
  • The customer is responsible for dismantling and reinstalling parts.

If an entire kiln is returned for warranty repair, the customer is responsible for prepaying the cost of packaging and shipping both to and from the factory.

Repair, Replacement, or Refund

If Olympic Kilns determines that the issue is due to a manufacturing defect, Olympic Kilns will repair, replace, or refund as appropriate within thirty (30) days.

Repaired or replacement parts will be shipped back to the customer at Olympic Kilns’ cost using the customer’s package. The customer is responsible for reinstalling the parts.

Non-Warranty Repairs

If the parts sent to Olympic Kilns require repair or replacement for a reason not covered by the warranty, no work will be performed until the customer authorizes the work and makes payment arrangements.

Limits of Warranty Coverage

Olympic Kilns shall not be liable for injuries to persons or property, or for incidental, contingent, special, or consequential damages arising from the use of its products.

Some states do not allow the exclusion or limitation of incidental or consequential damages, so these limitations may not apply to every customer. This warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may also have other rights that vary from state to state.

If the issue is not resolved through the retailer, Olympic Kilns must be contacted in writing within six (6) days of the first indication of the defect.

Olympic Kilns will determine which parts appear to require repair and will provide instructions for shipment when needed.

Customer Responsibilities

For warranty service, the customer may be responsible for dismantling, packaging, and shipping only the parts requested by Olympic Kilns.

  • Requested parts must be packaged carefully and shipped freight prepaid.
  • The customer is responsible for dismantling and reinstalling parts.
  • The customer is responsible for packaging and shipping costs unless otherwise stated.
  • Only the parts requested by Olympic Kilns should be shipped.
