Common questions
What electrical work is required for the 2823HE?
This kiln requires a dedicated 60-amp circuit with 6 AWG copper wire. For 240V single-phase installations, a NEMA 14-60 receptacle is standard. For 208V three-phase power, hardwiring is required. A licensed electrician should verify your building's electrical capacity and install the appropriate circuit and breaker before delivery.
Does the 2823HE come with kiln shelves and posts?
No, furniture is sold separately. The 28.25-inch chamber diameter requires half-round shelves. We recommend ordering a furniture kit sized for this model, which typically includes 4-6 half shelves and 12-18 posts to start. Furniture needs vary based on the work you're firing.
Can I add sections to make this kiln taller?
Yes, the stackable design allows you to add or remove 9-inch sections to adjust the chamber height. However, adding sections increases the electrical load and may require rewiring and controller adjustment. Contact us before modifying your kiln to ensure proper electrical and heating element configuration.
How do I register the warranty?
Olympic Kilns requires warranty registration within 30 days of delivery. You'll receive registration instructions with your kiln. The one-year limited warranty covers manufacturing defects but not consumable parts like elements, thermocouples, or relays. Warranty is valid only when purchased through authorized dealers like Peach State Pottery.
What's the difference between the KilnStar controller and the Genesis upgrade?
The included KilnStar is a simple 3-button controller with 8-segment programs, suitable for most ceramic firing. The Genesis upgrade adds a color touchscreen, 250 program storage, 32 segments per program, real-time graphing, USB connectivity, and advanced scheduling features. Most potters start with the KilnStar and upgrade later if needed.
