Common questions
What electrical work is required for the 1414HE? The kiln requires a dedicated 40-amp double-pole circuit breaker with 8 AWG copper wire run to a NEMA 6-50R receptacle for 240V operation (or NEMA 15-50R for 208V). You'll need a licensed electrician to install this circuit—most residential panels can accommodate this load, but your electrician should verify your panel capacity and distance from the kiln location to confirm wire sizing. The kiln includes a 9-foot power cord.
Is the furniture kit included in this package sufficient for all my firing needs? The included furniture kit provides the essential shelves and posts for standard configurations in the 14.5″ chamber. Depending on your work—whether you're firing tall pieces, need more shelf levels for production bisque firings, or want specific stacking arrangements—you may eventually want additional shelves or post heights. Most potters find the included set adequate to start and add pieces as their production patterns develop.
Can this kiln really reach cone 10, or is it primarily for mid-range firing? The 1414HE is rated and built for true cone 10 firing with proper element spacing, 3-inch brick insulation, and heavy-duty coiled elements designed for high-fire work. The included Genesis controller has cone 10 programs pre-loaded. That said, smaller kilns work harder to reach top temperatures, so expect element life to be shorter with frequent cone 10 firings versus cone 5-6 work. Many potters use this size for cone 6 production and occasional cone 10 firings.
What does the solid state relay do, and why is it included in this package? The SSR replaces mechanical contactors (electromagnetic switches) with solid-state electronics that control power flow to the elements. This eliminates the clicking sound of traditional relays, reduces wear on the controller, provides smoother power delivery for more even heating, and extends overall system lifespan. It's included in the Freedom Package because it significantly improves the firing experience and protects your controller investment—it's one of the most popular upgrades on standard kilns.
How do I maintain warranty coverage on this kiln? Register your kiln with Olympic within 30 days of delivery—registration instructions come with the kiln documentation. The warranty covers manufacturing defects for one year from delivery date and is only valid when purchased through authorized dealers like Peach State Pottery. Keep your sales receipt and complete registration promptly. Normal wear items like elements and thermocouples have separate coverage terms detailed in your warranty documentation.
Not sure if the 1414HE Freedom Package is the right kiln for your space? Our team can help you evaluate electrical requirements, compare capacity options, and determine if this bundle matches your production needs.

Damage that occurs during shipping or delivery is not treated as a manufacturing warranty defect. Freight damage must be documented at delivery and handled through the freight claim process.

Please inspect your shipment carefully before signing for delivery. Take photos or video of the packaging before unpacking and continue documenting the unpacking process, especially if you notice any visible damage.

Warranty Claim Process

If you believe your Olympic kiln has a warranty-related issue, contact Peach State Pottery with your order information and a description of the issue. We will help review the situation and assist with the next steps.

If the issue is not resolved through the retailer, Olympic Kilns must be contacted in writing within six (6) days of the first indication of the defect.

Olympic Kilns will determine which parts appear to require repair and will provide instructions for shipment when needed.

Customer Responsibilities

For warranty service, the customer may be responsible for dismantling, packaging, and shipping only the parts requested by Olympic Kilns.

  • Requested parts must be packaged carefully and shipped freight prepaid.
  • The customer is responsible for dismantling and reinstalling parts.

If an entire kiln is returned for warranty repair, the customer is responsible for prepaying the cost of packaging and shipping both to and from the factory.

Repair, Replacement, or Refund

If Olympic Kilns determines that the issue is due to a manufacturing defect, Olympic Kilns will repair, replace, or refund as appropriate within thirty (30) days.

Repaired or replacement parts will be shipped back to the customer at Olympic Kilns’ cost using the customer’s package. The customer is responsible for reinstalling the parts.

Non-Warranty Repairs

Limits of Warranty Coverage

Olympic Kilns shall not be liable for injuries to persons or property, or for incidental, contingent, special, or consequential damages arising from the use of its products.

Some states do not allow the exclusion or limitation of incidental or consequential damages, so these limitations may not apply to every customer. This warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may also have other rights that vary from state to state.

  • Retain your delivery receipt – it will be required as supporting documentation when a claim is filed.
  • Once the inspector has filled out the inspection report, read it carefully and make sure you agree with the report.
  • Unless repairs will be completely satisfactory, be sure the inspector requests replacement on the inspection report.

After Carrier Inspection

  • Continue to retain damaged merchandise even though the inspection has been completed.
  • Damaged items cannot be used or disposed of without written permission from the carrier.
  • Do not return damaged items without written authorization from the supplier.
  • If damaged items are picked up by the carrier for salvage, secure the receipt.

Filing a Freight Claim

  • It is the customer's responsibility (as consignee) to file any claim.
  • We are willing to assist you in collecting claims but this willingness does not make us responsible for collection of claims or replacement of materials damaged or lost.
  • We cannot make freight claims for customers.
  • Documents required for filing a freight claim:
    • Carrier's loss or damage claim form
    • Shipper's original invoice or copy
    • Original bill of lading
    • Original paid freight bill
    • Carrier's inspection report
    • Repair invoice
  • We do not allow any deductions from invoices for damaged ware.

Warranty

Olympic Kilns Warranty

Olympic Kilns are warranted by Olympic Kilns / Haugen Manufacturing, Inc. for kilns used for ceramics, pottery, and glass, subject to the warranty periods, requirements, and exclusions listed below.

This warranty is provided by Olympic Kilns / Haugen Manufacturing, Inc. Peach State Pottery is here to help customers understand warranty coverage and assist with the process if warranty service is needed.

Warranty Periods

Warranty coverage depends on the kiln type and configuration.

Product / Component Warranty Period
Kilns equipped with a Kiln Sitter and Safety Timer 1 year
Cone 10 kilns 1 year
All other Olympic kilns 2 years
Thermocouples Not covered
Kiln furniture Not covered

Warranty coverage must be activated by registering your purchase.

What the Warranty Covers

Olympic Kilns warranty coverage applies to defects in manufacturing for eligible kilns used for ceramics, pottery, and glass.

If a covered manufacturing defect is confirmed, Olympic Kilns may repair, replace, or refund the affected part or product as appropriate.

Warranty Registration Required

To activate warranty coverage, your Olympic Kilns purchase must be registered. Keep your proof of purchase, order information, and any product documentation for your records.

Reporting a Defect

Defects must be reported in writing within six (6) days of discovery. Your written notice should include:

  • The date the issue was discovered
  • The place of purchase
  • Proof of purchase
  • A description of the defect
  • Photos or videos, if available

Warranty Exclusions

The Olympic Kilns warranty does not cover damage or issues caused by:

  • Kilns damaged or altered after leaving the factory.
  • Damage caused by reduction firing or salt firing.
  • Over-firing or exceeding the maximum cone or temperature rating.
  • Improper installation.
  • Use of electrical voltages different from those specified for the kiln.
  • Firing materials other than ceramics and glass.
  • Thermocouples or kiln furniture.

Freight Damage Is Not Warranty Damage

  • The customer is responsible for packaging and shipping costs unless otherwise stated.
  • Only the parts requested by Olympic Kilns should be shipped.

If the parts sent to Olympic Kilns require repair or replacement for a reason not covered by the warranty, no work will be performed until the customer authorizes the work and makes payment arrangements.
