Common questions
What's the difference between annealing, fusing, and slumping temperatures?
The HS-18A is optimized for annealing (stress relief) at temperatures typically between 900°F–1050°F, where glass is held at a stable temperature to equalize internal stresses. While this kiln reaches 1100°F, it's not designed for full fusing (1400°F+) or most slumping work (1200°F–1350°F). It excels at controlled cooling schedules and maintaining precise hold temperatures for thick glass pieces that need extended annealing cycles.
Can I add atmosphere control for flame-working or specialized techniques?
Yes, the HS-18A can be fitted with an optional atmosphere port kit that allows you to introduce inert gases or create reducing atmospheres. This is useful for certain dichroic treatments, metal inclusion work, or preventing devitrification on sensitive glass compositions. The solid state relay control maintains stable temperatures even when atmosphere flow is introduced.
Should I run this on 120V or upgrade to 240V?
The 120V configuration is convenient for studios with standard outlets and works well for typical annealing schedules where slow, controlled heating isn't time-sensitive. Upgrading to 240V provides faster recovery between cycles and better performance if you're running the kiln continuously or need quicker ramp rates. Your electrician can convert the kiln in the field—it requires a dedicated 240V circuit and appropriate breaker sizing.
What controller should I choose for complex annealing schedules?
The standard digital controller handles basic ramp-hold programs suitable for most annealing work. If you're managing multiple glass types (soft vs. hard glass, varying thicknesses) or need to store and repeat specific cooling curves, the Genesis Touchscreen upgrade provides 100 programmable slots with 32-segment capacity. It's especially valuable for production studios or artists working with thick cast glass that requires elaborate cooling schedules.
Is my purchase covered under warranty if I buy from Peach State Pottery?
Yes. Peach State Pottery is an authorized Hot Shot Ovens & Kilns dealer, which means your HS-18A is covered by the manufacturer's one-year limited warranty. You must register the kiln within 30 days of delivery to activate coverage. Warranty is only valid when purchased through authorized dealers—gray market or used kilns are not covered.
Not sure if the HS-18A is the right annealing cabinet for your glass studio? Our kiln specialists can help you evaluate chamber size, voltage options, and controller features based on your annealing workflow and production volume.

  • The product must not be a special order or custom-configured unit.
  • A Return Merchandise Authorization, or RMA, must be approved before anything is shipped back.

Please do not ship any product back without first receiving return authorization.

Off-the-Shelf Stock Units

Standard stock units, including the HS-360, HS-1200, and HS-18K in unmodified condition, may be eligible for return under the conditions listed in this policy.

  • Approved stock unit returns are subject to a 25% restocking fee.
  • Returns must be initiated within 30 days of purchase.
  • The customer is responsible for prepaid freight back to the warehouse.
  • The product must pass inspection before a refund is approved.

If the product is not in as-new, resellable condition, you will be notified and offered the option to have it returned to you at your expense.

Modified Stock Units

Units upgraded or modified from their original stock configuration, including controller upgrades or custom configurations, are subject to a 25% restocking fee and must meet all other return conditions listed above.

Special Order & Custom Units

Special order or custom-made units are products specifically designed, modified, or manufactured to meet unique customer specifications.

These units are not returnable under any circumstances unless covered by an approved warranty claim.

Refurbished & Scratch & Dent Units

Refurbished units and scratch-and-dent models are discounted due to cosmetic flaws or handling damage. These units are fully tested and functional but are sold as-is and are not returnable.

Product Must Be Unopened

Any product whose carton seal has been broken, installed, energized, or marked in any way is not considered suitable for resale and will not be accepted for return.

Restocking Fee

Approved returns of eligible HotShot stock units are subject to a 25% restocking fee.

Original shipping costs are not credited or refunded. Return shipping is the customer’s responsibility unless otherwise stated under an approved warranty claim.

Return Process

To start a return, contact Peach State Pottery with your order information and reason for return. We will help coordinate the next steps.

  1. Request return authorization.
  2. Wait for RMA approval before shipping anything back.
  3. Repackage the product carefully in its original, unmarked packaging.
  4. Ship the product prepaid and insured to the designated return address.
  5. The product will be inspected after arrival.
  6. If approved, your refund or credit will be processed.

Return Shipping Damage

Peach State Pottery is not responsible for damage incurred during return shipping.

We strongly recommend taking photos of the return packaging before shipment and using a prepaid, insured shipping method. Any damage that occurs during return shipping may be deducted from your refund.

Refunds

Once your return is received and inspected, you will be notified whether your refund has been approved or rejected.

If approved, the refund will be issued back to the original payment method. Please allow time for your bank or credit card company to process the refund after it has been issued.

Late or Missing Refunds

If your refund has been approved but has not appeared yet, please check your bank or credit card statement, contact your card issuer or bank, and then contact Peach State Pottery if you still need help.

Exchanges

Exchanges are generally only available for items that are defective, damaged, or approved under the applicable manufacturer policy.
