Olympic 2827HE Electric Kiln
The 2827HE delivers 10 cubic feet of firing capacity in a stackable configuration with 28.25-inch interior width and 27-inch height, suitable for high-fire reduction-style glazes to Cone 10. This HE-series kiln uses 3-inch firebrick and balanced element design for even heat distribution across the full chamber depth. The stackable jacket design allows section-by-section replacement and simplified maintenance over the kiln's lifespan.

Common questions
Do I need an electrician to install the 2827HE?
Yes. This kiln draws 48 amps at 240V and requires a dedicated 60-amp circuit with hardwired connection. A licensed electrician must install the appropriate breaker, run 6 AWG copper wire, and connect the kiln per National Electric Code standards. The kiln does not include a plug.
Does the kiln include shelves and posts?
No. Kiln furniture is sold separately because potters require different quantities and configurations based on their work. A typical furniture kit for the 2827HE includes 28-inch round cordierite shelves, various-height posts, and stilts. We recommend purchasing furniture at the same time as the kiln.
What does the Olympic warranty cover?
The one-year limited warranty covers manufacturing defects in materials and workmanship. It does not cover consumable items like elements, thermocouples, or relays, which wear naturally with use. You must register your kiln within 30 days of delivery, and the warranty is valid only when purchased through authorized Olympic dealers like Peach State Pottery.
Can this kiln fire reduction glazes?
No. The 2827HE is an electric oxidation kiln. While it fires to Cone 10 (the same temperature as reduction gas kilns), it produces an oxygen-rich atmosphere. Many potters use reduction-style glazes formulated for electric kilns to achieve similar visual effects without actual reduction.
How much does the 2827HE cost to operate per firing?
At 11.52 kW and an average Georgia electricity rate of $0.12/kWh, a full Cone 10 firing (approximately 10-12 hours) costs $13.80–$16.60 in electricity. Actual costs vary based on your utility rates, firing schedules, and kiln loading efficiency. Off-peak firing can reduce costs significantly.
