Paragon Knife Oven - KM54 Pro
The KM54 Pro delivers professional heat treating capability in-house with an extra-long 54" chamber designed for swords, long blades, and high-volume knife production. Space-age ceramic fiber construction reaches 500°F in minutes—dramatically faster than traditional brick kilns—while the 2350°F maximum temperature handles heat treating, tempering, and annealing of high-performance knife steels. Made in USA by Paragon, a precision heat treat equipment manufacturer since 1948.

- Large 4.3" color touchscreen with intuitive menu navigation—no cryptic codes or button combinations
- Program up to 32 segments per firing for precise control of critical temperature transitions
- Real-time temperature graphing displays heating curve and allows in-process monitoring
- Alarm notifications for over-temperature conditions and program completion alerts
- USB data export for heat treat certification documentation and quality control records
Common questions
What knife steels can I heat treat in the KM54 Pro?
The 2350°F maximum temperature handles virtually all knife steels including 1095, 5160, 52100, O1, A2, D2, and most stainless steels like 440C and AEB-L. It's suitable for common carbon steels (austenitizing around 1475-1550°F) and air-hardening tool steels. High-alloy CPM powdered steels that require 2100-2200°F austenitizing temperatures—like CPM-154, S30V, S35VN—are within range. For exotic steels requiring temperatures above 2350°F, consult Paragon about specialized models.
Do I need the atmosphere gas inlet for my heat treating?
Most knife makers don't need atmosphere control for successful heat treating—scaling can be removed during grinding and finishing. The optional gas inlet kit is beneficial if you're working with thin blades where decarburization is a concern, doing stainless steel heat treating where you want to minimize oxidation, or producing high-volume production runs where you want to reduce post-heat-treat cleanup time. Argon or nitrogen atmosphere prevents scale formation but adds complexity and cost to your process.
What controller comes standard with the KM54 Pro?
The KM54 Pro includes Paragon's digital controller with programmable ramp and hold segments for heat treating cycles. You can program heating rates, soak times at target temperature, and controlled cooling—all critical for proper heat treating. The Genesis touchscreen upgrade offers a more intuitive color touchscreen interface, expanded program storage (200 programs vs. limited on standard controller), real-time graphing, and USB data export for documentation.
How does the KM54 Pro compare to smaller Paragon knife ovens?
The KM54 Pro's 54-inch chamber is designed for swords, long blades, and production knife makers who heat treat multiple pieces simultaneously. Paragon's smaller models (like the KM18 or KM27) have similar temperature capability and ceramic fiber construction but shorter chambers—suitable for pocket knives and kitchen knives up to about 12-14 inches. If you're making chef knives, hunting knives, or need to heat treat 4-6 blades at once, the KM54 gives you that capacity. For occasional small blade work, a shorter model saves money and bench space.
Is the warranty valid if I buy from Peach State Pottery?
Yes—Peach State Pottery is an authorized Paragon dealer, so your one-year limited warranty from Paragon Industries is fully valid. You must register your oven within 30 days of delivery to activate warranty coverage. Purchasing from unauthorized resellers (eBay, Amazon third-party sellers, etc.) typically voids manufacturer warranties. As an authorized dealer, we can also provide technical support and coordinate any warranty service directly with Paragon if needed.
Not sure if the KM54 Pro is the right heat treating oven for your shop?
Our kiln specialists can help you compare Paragon knife oven models, discuss electrical requirements, and determine the right chamber size for your blade production needs.
