Olympic Kilns · Electric Kiln · Top-Loading Olympic 1214-120HE 120V Electric Kiln Model 1214-120HE · 120-Volt · 11.25″ W × 13.5″ D · 0.86 cu ft · Cone 10 / 2350°F The Olympic 1214-120HE is the only kiln of this capacity that fires to Cone 10 on 120 volts. Built to order with your choice of voltage configuration, controller, and optional accessories, this kiln is a strong choice for hobbyists, apartment studios, and any setting where 240V power is unavailable. The “HE” designation stands for High Efficiency — 3-inch firebrick and an optimized element layout allow this kiln to reach full high-fire temperatures on a single 30-amp circuit. Furniture kit is available as an add-on and is recommended at time of ordering to avoid separate freight charges.

What’s included
KilnStar controller — Bartlett Instruments Keypad controller with cone-fire and vary-fire (ramp/hold) modes. Supports up to 6 custom programs with up to 8 segments each. Includes preheat, delay start, skip segment, and mid-firing temperature adjustments.
3-inch firebrick construction High-temperature insulating firebrick provides excellent heat retention and allows efficient firing to Cone 10 on 120 volts. Thicker brick than standard kilns means lower operating costs and better temperature consistency.
Pilot light indicator External indicator light shows when kiln is actively cycling. Useful for monitoring firing progress without opening the lid.
Metal stand with stainless steel jacket Sturdy metal stand lifts the chamber to working height. Stainless steel jacket protects the exterior and improves the finished appearance of the kiln.
Balanced element design Elements are positioned throughout the chamber wall for even heat distribution top to bottom. Reduces hot and cold spots during firing.
NEMA L5-30 twist-lock plug Ships with NEMA L5-30 twist-lock plug pre-installed. Requires a matching 30-amp twist-lock receptacle on a dedicated 30-amp circuit. An electrician is needed if this outlet is not already installed.

Optional accessories
Furniture kit Includes two 10″ round shelves and a full set of posts (1″–6″) sized for the 11.25″ chamber, plus 1 lb kiln wash. Strongly recommended at time of ordering — adding furniture separately incurs an additional shipping charge.
Solid-state relay (SSR) upgrade Replaces the standard mechanical relay with solid-state switching for silent operation, longer element life, and more precise temperature control. Likely to last the life of the kiln with no replacement needed.
Orton AutoVent automatic kiln vent Downdraft ventilation system removes fumes, moisture, and airborne particles during firing. Recommended for any indoor installation.
Genesis Touchscreen controller upgrade Upgrades from KilnStar to the Genesis touchscreen with up to 12 programs, 32 segments per program, real-time graphing, firing history, and diagnostic alerts. Best choice for users who fire a variety of materials or need full schedule customization.
Lid lift assist Spring-loaded mechanism counterbalances lid weight for easier one-handed opening and closing.
Rolling stand with caster wheels Heavy-duty wheeled stand allows repositioning without lifting the kiln. Particularly useful if the kiln shares space with other studio equipment or needs to be stored when not in use.
Power interrupt switch Removes power from elements automatically when the lid is opened during a firing cycle. Recommended for any setting where the kiln may be opened mid-fire for inspection.
Emergency parts kit Spare elements, thermocouples, and relays for fast repairs and minimal downtime. Good investment for production studios or remote locations where parts take time to arrive.
Controller upgrade
Genesis Touchscreen — Bartlett Instruments Recommended upgrade
The Genesis replaces the standard KilnStar keypad with a full color touchscreen and significantly expanded programming capabilities. If you fire multiple clay bodies, glazes, or non-ceramic materials, the Genesis gives you the flexibility to store and run separate programs for each without reprogramming between firings.
  • Color touchscreen with intuitive menu navigation
  • Store up to 12 programs with up to 32 segments each
  • Cone-fire mode with automatic adjustment for load variations
  • Real-time temperature graphing and full firing history log
  • Delay start, preheat hold, skip segment, and cone offset
  • Diagnostic alerts for thermocouple, element, and power faults
Common questions
Can this kiln really fire to Cone 10 on a standard 120-volt outlet?
It fires on 120 volts, but not a standard household outlet. The 1214-120HE draws 24 amps and requires a dedicated 30-amp circuit with a NEMA L5-30 twist-lock receptacle — not the standard 3-prong outlet found in most rooms. You will need an electrician to install the correct receptacle if one is not already in place. The “HE” designation stands for High Efficiency: 3-inch brick and an optimized element layout allow this kiln to reach Cone 10 / 2350°F on 120 volts, though firing cycles will typically run 12–18 hours to Cone 10 due to the lower wattage compared to 240V kilns.
What is the lead time for this kiln?
This is a made-to-order kiln with an 8–12 week lead time from Olympic’s factory. After your order is placed, we confirm your voltage, controller selection, and any options before it enters production. If you need a kiln sooner, our Quick-Ship version of the 1214-120HE ships from dealer stock within 2–3 weeks and includes a furniture kit.
Does this kiln come with a furniture kit?
No — this version does not include a furniture kit. Furniture must be ordered separately or added to your kiln order at time of purchase. We strongly recommend adding furniture to your initial order: sourcing it separately results in an additional shipping charge and a separate delivery. The furniture kit for this kiln includes two 10″ round shelves and a full set of posts from 1″ to 6″, plus kiln wash.
What electrical work do I need before delivery?
You need a dedicated 30-amp, 120-volt circuit with a NEMA L5-30 twist-lock receptacle installed by a licensed electrician. The circuit must be on its own breaker with 10 AWG wiring minimum. Do not share this circuit with other appliances. If you are unsure about your current electrical setup, contact us before ordering and we can walk you through what to tell your electrician.
What size work can I fire in an 11.25″ chamber?
The 11.25″ diameter accommodates plates up to 10.5″, bowls up to 10″ wide, and vessels up to 12–13″ tall depending on shelf configuration. This is well-suited for hobbyists, apartment studios, small production runs, test firing, and educational settings. For larger work, consider the Olympic 2327 or 2336 series.
How do I register the warranty?
Register at Olympic’s website within 30 days of delivery. You will need your serial number (on the data plate affixed to the kiln), purchase date, and dealer name (Peach State Pottery). Warranty is valid only through authorized Olympic dealers and covers manufacturing defects for one year from date of purchase.
