Olympic Kilns Champ XL Glass Kiln

This kiln is designed for glass fusing, slumping, forming, and annealing. It reaches 1700°F, which is sufficient for full fusing of COE 90 and COE 96 glass, tack fusing, contour fusing, and slumping into molds. The 6-inch chamber height accommodates most standard slumping molds. It's not designed for pottery, ceramics, or stoneware firing.

Yes. The Champ XL operates on 120 volts and plugs into a standard household outlet. You'll need a dedicated 20-amp circuit—check that your outlet is on a 20-amp breaker and not shared with other high-draw appliances. Most modern kitchens and garages have 20-amp circuits, but verify before use. No electrician or special wiring is required.

The kiln does not include shelves, fiber paper, or kiln wash—these are considered consumable supplies. You'll need to purchase a furniture pack for glass or individual components. For glass work, most artists use fiber paper or kiln wash on shelves to prevent glass from sticking. We recommend ordering a furniture kit sized for the 14.5″ square chamber along with your kiln.

A full-fuse cycle with proper annealing typically takes 8-12 hours depending on glass thickness and your firing schedule. This includes ramp-up time to fusing temperature (1450-1500°F), a brief hold, controlled cooling to annealing temperature (around 950°F for COE 96), an annealing soak, and slow cooling to room temperature. The KilnStar controller allows you to program these segments precisely.

The one-year limited warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship, including the heating elements, controller, and structural components. You must register your kiln with Olympic within 30 days of delivery, and the warranty is valid only when purchased through authorized dealers like Peach State Pottery. Normal wear items like thermocouples, shelves, and kiln wash are not covered. Damage from improper installation, overfiring, or failure to follow operating instructions voids the warranty.
